Sohee Choi
About
Sohee Choi is a Korean artist whose work explores the complexities of memory, trauma, and emotional survival. Her practice centers on transforming personal experiences—especially those marked by psychological disorientation—into visual narratives that reflect both inner unease and the human desire for safety. Through drawing and mixed media, she constructs symbolic spaces that express longing, contradiction, and quiet introspection.
A pivotal memory from childhood—being lost and alone in vast nature—continues to shape her creative language. In response to this formative trauma, Choi developed an attachment to clearly defined personal spaces, often marked by the color red. Red functions as both a warning and a boundary: a protective layer against threat, and a visual claim to emotional territory. In her works, red appears as a recurring motif, representing not only danger but also comfort, ownership, and psychological refuge.
By visualizing fragmented memories and invisible emotions, Choi transforms personal pain into shared images. Her ongoing work invites viewers to witness the delicate balance between vulnerability and resilience, offering spaces where healing might begin.
