MooAlee
MooALee is a Korean ceramic artist whose practice centers on slip casting techniques. By mixing colored pigments into liquid clay and occasionally applying gold finishes, she creates vibrant, textured works that reflect her imagined worlds and hopeful narratives. Her ceramics express philosophical questions around life, desire, and happiness, drawing inspiration from the Buddhist notion of “non-self” (無我) as a pathway to complete inner peace.
Recurring motifs such as pregnant women, birds, and clouds appear as symbolic figures of joy, energy, and spiritual transcendence. These forms are paired with geometric patterns and layered colors that represent emotional accumulation, individuality, and the diversity of human life. In contrast, as the layers peel away, the work returns to a state of “emptiness,” approaching the pure essence of her vision—a realm she calls the “Pure Land.”
Through her ongoing Pure Land series, she explores themes of healing, wholeness, and release, inviting viewers to encounter a space of quiet contemplation and hope.
