Jaebok Lee

Lee Jaebok visualizes the flow of emotions and the movements of the inner self.

Rather than representing specific subjects, his work begins with capturing fleeting impressions of emotions and memories that pass through everyday life.

On the surface, layered colors, traces, and scratched marks coexist, forming a structure where creation and erasure continuously repeat. These layers embody the accumulation of time and the density of emotion, reflecting an inner state that moves between anxiety and balance.

The characters that appear in his work are not fixed entities, but fragments of multiple selves coexisting within the artist. Through varying expressions and gestures, they reveal emotional dualities—such as anxiety and anticipation, curiosity and avoidance—while creating an open structure onto which viewers can project their own experiences.

Text inserted into the image does not function as explanation, but rather as a disruptive element within the flow of perception. Language that misaligns with the image resists fixed interpretation, allowing the work to remain unresolved and open-ended.

Ultimately, Lee Jaebok’s work is an attempt to record ungraspable moments and emotions - an exploration of the sense of “now” within the finite condition of life.
